Five African Startup Funding Programs Still Open in August 2026

Most of the funding calendar for African founders closes by late July. Y Combinator's Fall batch, MEST's fellowship, Accelerate Africa, Open Startup International, AWIEF's Pitch n Grow, the iDICE Founders Lab cohort all ended in the last week of July. It's aimed squarely at founders building in music, film and media, design, and creative tech across Africa, not artists or creative service providers, but startups with a scalable product or platform in those spaces. Selected founders get $20,000 to $50,000 as a convertible note, plus mentorship and investor-readiness support. Unlike the Google programs, this one is early-stage friendly. Milken-Motsepe Prize in Circular Economy Deadline: August 13, 2026 The biggest prize pool on this list at $2 million total, including a $1 million Grand Prize, but also the hardest bar to clear. Milken Institute and the Motsepe Foundation are looking for companies with more than two years of continuous operation, over $500,000 in revenue and raised capital, and a circular-economy solution already deployed somewhere in Africa across agriculture, plastics, electronics, textiles, or construction. Admission happens through quarterly cohorts, so there's always a next intake to aim for. It's not a cash grant.
